My Bio
I'm Gail O'Brien and I'm Owner/Director of Stallfinder. Stallfinder lists stallholders and events all over the UK. My husband and I launched the website in March 2008 after I'd been trying to find stallholders for a small local charity event and promote it. I realised there was no one place for stallholders and event organisers to find each other and so the idea for Stallfinder was born.
I'd always wanted to start my own business and, with 3 young daughters, affordable childcare was an issue. Stallfinder was launched as my youngest daughter started school and, 14 years later, I still run the website from home (or anywhere serving nice coffee) in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
I won SBS in July 2014 and was immediately inundated with lots of twitter messages, retweets and new followers. It took me days to thank everyone. I attended the SBS Winners 2015 event where I received my winners certificate and had my photo taken with Theo. I also attended the 2020 event and look forward to attending more in the future. The SBS winners Facebook group is a great place to network with other winners and gain advice and support from fellow small businesses.
My Business Tips
For new businesses, be prepared to work for very little, if anything for a while as it can take time to build a profitable business. Protect your business idea, name and intellectual property if possible as there are some sharks out there. Make use of all the free social networking available to you for advice and spreading the word about your new venture.
