My Buzz

We are so proud to be Britain's most northerly winners of the Small Business Sunday Award allowing us to be part of the #SBS family.

Our success shows how powerful social networking has become, with a small business in the Shetland Islands catching the attention of business guru and Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis.

My Bio

Camera Centre is Shetland's one-stop photo-store. A fully independent camera store, Camera Centre is recognised as one of the best outlets in the UK. This outstanding achievement has been driven by the staff and management’s determination to always remain at the forefront of technology.

In May 2012 Camera Centre was purchased by Ben Mullay. Besides being a well known professionally qualified wedding photographer, Ben has been instrumental in leading the company into an exciting new era which includes online photo prints, photo decor and gifting products.

A great deal of the Camera Centre’s work is helping preserve people’s memories through photography. Scanning old family photos, restoration - even saving and organising more recent digital images is a speciality.

Ben Mullay and his team understand that not everyone can make it in to the Lerwick store. That's why they developed a comprehensive website where customers can buy equipment, print photos or create a wide range of photo products. Ordering online is easy as many satisfied island customers will attest.

From passport pictures through to the latest cameras - indeed everything in the imaging sector, talk to the friendly team at Camera Centre in Commercial Street. You can also check out and order their products at www.cameracentre.net.

My Business Tips

Treat customers as you would like to be treated yourself. This also applies to supplier and other business relationships. Customer service and specialist product knowledge is where independent businesses can stand out and thrive.

Strategy is everything. It is vital to have a clearly defined, agile and constantly updated strategy to help drive your business forward.

Know your market inside out so you can be the first to see emerging trends in your industry.

Having good people around you is very important - friends, advisers and suppliers.

Network as much as possible with other key people in your industry.
