Formerly Rainbow Lux Glass
Vivid Lux Glass is a handmade fused glass business based in Southampton. I create colourful glass gifts, garden pieces and meaningful keepsakes from my workshop, turning sheets of glass into finished pieces through cutting, shaping, kiln firing and hand finishing.
My range includes bee water stations, suncatchers, decorative glass gifts and memorial keepsakes. Many pieces can be personalised or made in chosen colours, making them ideal for thoughtful gifts, home décor and garden lovers.
I’ve been working with fused glass since 2015 and full time in the business since 2017. Every piece is made by hand, with colour, care and attention to detail.
My name is Kelly and I’m the owner, designer, maker, photographer, packer, admin department and general plate spinner behind Vivid Lux Glass.
I started working with glass in 2015 after taking a beginner’s fused glass course and quickly became completely hooked. In 2017, I left my day job to focus on the business full time and I’ve been building it ever since.
I make everything from my workshop in Southampton, from colourful garden glass and bee water stations to suncatchers, gifts and memorial keepsakes. I love creating pieces that feel personal, useful or meaningful, not mass produced.
I’m also a mum of two boys, so running the business has always had to fit around real life, school runs, family chaos and all the usual small business juggling. It’s hard work, but I still feel very lucky that I get to spend my days making glass for people who genuinely value handmade work.
Running a handmade business is not just about making lovely things. You need to know your numbers, price properly and be honest about what is actually profitable.
It’s very easy to undercharge because you love what you do or because you worry people won’t pay. But your time, skill, materials, packaging, fees, mistakes and admin all count. If the numbers don’t work, the business won’t either.
My biggest tip is to keep going, but keep learning too. Read your customer reviews on the hard days, because they remind you why your work matters. Then look at your figures, your photos, your listings and your processes, because that’s what helps the business move forward.
