Commissioning bespoke fitted furniture is a well-researched and carefully deliberated purchase. At Hartleys, we aim to make your experience a pleasant and stress-free one, from visiting our showroom through to the installation.  Want to know more about the process? Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions explaining what we do and why you can rely on us to fulfil your expectations.

Q: What type of furniture do you make?

A: We specialise in fitted furniture for bedrooms, home studies and multi-purpose rooms, as well as freestanding furniture. From wardrobes to desks and finishing touches such as headboards and mirrors, each room is unique according to its size and features, purpose, and design. With Hartleys, your furniture can be too.

Q: How does the process work?

A: * We invite you to look around our showroom in Skipton, North Yorkshire, to browse our available ranges, finishes, door styles, storage solutions and handles.

* We’ll arrange a home visit for our design consultant to measure your room, discuss your requirements and offer expert advice on the options available.

* Armed with these insights, we produce your room plan using state-of-the-art design software. We’ll invite you back to the showroom to view the plan and discuss any amendments, before finalising the design and price.

* Once you are happy with the design, the manufacturing process begins.  We generally advise a lead time of 6 weeks, during which time we stay in communication and confirm the installation date for your lovely new furniture.

Q: How much will our furniture cost?

A: When visiting the showroom, we can advise you on approximate prices for units and finishes, to use as a gauge.  The exact price of your furniture and installation will be calculated once your room plan has been completed, on your second visit to the showroom.

Your measurements, consultation and room plan are free of charge.  A 25% deposit will be requested on placing your order, and the remainder charged after installation, providing you are entirely satisfied with the job.

Q: Where is our furniture made?

A: We custom-build all of our furniture in our Skipton factory, utilising over 30 years of expertise in manufacturing fitted furniture, as well as state-of-the-art machinery.  We’re proud to manufacture in Yorkshire and we love to show prospective customers around our factory when they visit the showroom.

Q: Do you deliver and fit the furniture yourselves?

A: Yes – from the design and manufacturing to the installation, you have one point of contact from start to finish. We use local electricians, plumbers, carpet-layers and other skilled tradesmen to provide a high quality service at every stage.

Q: We have sloping ceilings / beams / alcoves – is that a problem?

A: Not at all. Our fitted furniture ensures that all space is utilised and the visual impact is perfectly seamless – no dead space or hard-to-reach areas.

Q: We’ve got a small bedroom / office.  Will your furniture still fit?

A: Bespoke fitted furniture allows you to maximise all available space – so whether you have a bridging unit across the top of the bed, wardrobes that taper at a doorway, a foldaway wall bed, or just clever interiors, fitted furniture is a neat and effective solution.

Q: Can you hide away bulky items such as the TV, PC, books, coats and spare bedding, so that they’re easily accessible?

A: Yes, we can create long hanging and short hanging interiors in your wardrobes, shoe racks, deep interior shelving, foldaway furniture and more, so that everything has its place.

Q: Can you do the joinery work for ensuite cabinets and bath panelling?

A: Absolutely – we can liaise with your tradesmen or supply our own to ensure the project is fully co-ordinated.

Q: Do you dismantle and take away the existing furniture and carpets?

A: We are happy to remove and dispose of old furniture and carpets by pre-arrangement.

Q: How long does the furniture take to fit?

A: It will depend on the size and complexity of the project. Our design consultant will advise you when you come to view your room plan.

Q: Does the fitting create a lot of mess?

A: Joinery does generate dust, so our fitters will keep all relevant doors closed! They will also clear up on completion of the job, using their own equipment.  We always treat our customers’ homes with the utmost respect.
