Interior Design Trends for Summer 2018

Summer is one of the most anticipated times of the year, and not only because it’s time for a beautiful holiday – It’s also the ideal time to renovate because the days are longer, the weather is usually a little warmer (depending on where you are, of course!), so, it’s much easier to get the job done.

Plus, you get to explore some of the best trends of the year in your home. In this post, we’ll be featuring our guide to the interior design trends you need to know for Summer 2018.

Crisp Whites & Neutrals

This year, designers have gone back to the basic to curate the perfect summer palette with a neutral canvas. Gone are the bold statement walls and visually cluttered designs. In their place, people are going for cool white backdrops to emulate an airy, breezy quality in their home interiors. White tones have a naturally cool quality that translates extremely well in a mid-summer home renovation.

Geometry & Polygons

Geometric shapes and polygonal designs are slowly taking over Summer 2018. From end tables to lamps, pendent lights and even accessories, you can now find all sorts of geometry-inspired trinkets and baubles in the trendiest homes this season. These decorations can make for amazing and bold statement pieces.

Pastels a la Ice-Cream Palette

Pastels have now been dubbed the ‘ice-cream’ colour palette and people are going crazy for this particular design trend, for obvious reasons this Summer. While whites remain a favourite backdrop, the cool, breezy yet still colourful aura of pastels can look just as welcoming on a warm, humid summers day. Therefore, many 2018 interior designs are now featuring amazing pastel schemes in various shades and hues of the same colour; powder blue, baby pinks, lavender and so much more. Bringing Back the Midcentury

The subtle Boho Chic vibe of the midcentury modern aesthetic is gradually being infused in the new summery interior designs. From flowing white curtains to shabby chic accessories, brown furniture accents and even tasseled throws and cushions, the bohemian aesthetic of midcentury is making a comeback. Statement Rugs

Bold statement rugs have a tendency to become the highlight of any room, and with breezy colours like pastels and white in the foreground, designers are using crafty statement rugs to spice up these interiors. So, whether you want a striking shade of a typical shaggy rug, a Venetian carpet or even a modern spin on an oriental rug, Summer 2018 is definitely the time to go for it.

Of course, here at Mirror Mania, we have fallen in love with this large beautiful rug whose pattern is reminiscent of Art Deco geometric fanned designs.

Cement Tiles

Cement tiles are an age-old design trend that is making a comeback this Summer. Dating back to 19th century Europe, these tiles became popular because they didn’t need to be baked in a kiln, which meant that their colours and texture would not have differed too much and a similar look could have been laid throughout a space. – Whereas, kiln fired clay and ceramic tiles are all individually unique.

Now that cement tiles are taking over the design world with their amazingly distinguished, seamless patterns and of course affordable prices, it’s easy to create a clean continuous look in your hallway, kitchen or bathroom.

These beautiful tiles fit perfect with this Summer’s geometric trend and course, Mirror Mania’s extensive collection of Art Deco Mirrors and Décor.
