Cake maker Michelle Shulman is celebrating scooping another award at the Cake International 2015 show. She entered a 7 tier wedding cake into the competition and came home from the NEC, Birmingham, with silver award for her creation.
Michelle, 37, began baking professionally about 10 years ago after creating a birthday cake for her daughter and now runs La Belle Cake Company on North Street, Leighton Buzzard where they make bespoke cakes to order. They also hold cupcake decorating classes for children.
Michelle is carrying on a family tradition after learning her trade from mum Diane and nan Iris. “This cake was a testament to my Nan and the skills she taught me,” said Michelle. “The cake features delicate piping and royal icing work that is very rarely seen on cakes nowadays and is a skill that I would like to see bought back to the forefront of cake design. To me it is important that every part of the cake is edible, including the decoration.”
