SMALL PRESS OF THE YEAR WINNERS UNVEILED SHOWCASING ‘VERSATILITY AND BREADTH’ OF PUBLISHING

The Bookseller, organisers of The British Book Awards, have revealed local publisher SRL Publishing as a Regional winner in this years’ Small Press of the Year Award at The British Book Awards. The awards, which is sponsored by CPI Group and in its fourth year, celebrates the diversity, innovation, and creativity of small publishers. From a list of finalists across the UK and Ireland, 8 agile indies have been named Regional and Country winners.

Philip Jones, editor of The Bookseller and chair of the judges for The British Book Awards say: “The Small Press Award has become one of the most important at the British Book Awards with the more than 60 submissions showcasing the sheer versatility and breadth of publishing across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Here are publishers at the coalface, making every sale count, building customer relationships, and nurturing writers through what are often the early stages of their careers.”

The presses will now compete for the overall prize which will be announced at The British Book Awards ceremony on Monday 23rd May 2022. The overall Small Press winner will also compete to be crowned Independent Publisher of the Year.

SRL Publishing is the world’s first climate positive book publisher, calculating its carbon emissions and offsetting those emissions and more by supporting the highest verified projects around the world, which also contribute to all 17 of the UN SDGs. SRL also calculate the number of trees used for their products and plant to replace, with an average 12 trees being planted for every 1 tree used for their books. They have recently joined the United Nations SDG Publishers Compact and have a seat on the Publishers Association Sustainability Taskforce working to develop industry standard tools for the continuing evolution of the industry in accordance with the UN SDGs and to further its contribution towards a low-carbon future and create change within the industry.
