My Buzz

Watching someone arrive at a shoot convinced they’re “awful in photos”, then seeing them laughing ten minutes later, completely forgetting the camera is there. That moment never gets old.

But my favourite part comes afterwards, when I hear what my clients think of their photos. As Dr Connie Kerali put it: “Receiving my gallery was like Christmas Day!”

The other thing that gives me a buzz is the detective work. Before I pick up a camera, I want to know the story behind your business, what you’re proud of and what you’re nervous about showing. Then I hunt for the little details that make you, you - the tools you use every day, the corner where the magic happens, the things your customers love but you’ve stopped noticing.

My Bio

Hi, I’m Bex, the brand photographer behind Bexphoto. I’m based in Uckfield, East Sussex, and happy to travel - I’ve shot all over Sussex and in Kent, London, Scotland, Spain and my favourite, Paris.

I help founders, makers and small business owners feel confident being the face of their business. It’s more than a headshot: I capture the story and passion behind what you do, from you and your workspace to your products, your process and the little details your customers love.

I’ve been taking photos seriously since 2005 and went branding-only in 2022, not long after a dream job photographing the staff, food and venue at a local gastropub. My work has been published on PhotoVogue and featured by National Geographic. I hold Click Pro status, and I wrote and teach a brand photography course for Click Photo School, as well as mentoring other photographers.

How I work:

  • Planning first. Every full shoot starts with a brand workbook, mood board and shoot plan, with plenty of room left for spontaneous moments on the day.
  • Natural light only. I never use flash.
  • No airbrushing. You’ll look like you on a great day, so people recognise you when they meet you.
  • Small client list. I keep numbers low so you get my full attention.
  • Pets welcome, furry or otherwise!

This is no corporate shoot - we’re showing off your biggest USP: you!

I’m big on community over competition. I run the Sussex Business Club, a friendly networking group with brunches and walks, I’m one of the official photographers for Uckfield & District Chamber of Commerce, and I run charity headshot fundraisers, including one for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity which raised £2,224.

Fun fact: two days a week I’m also a dentist! It means clinical spaces don’t faze me, and I’m well practised at putting nervous people at ease.

I’m thrilled to be an #SBS winner and can’t wait to meet more of the club. Let’s have a natter!

My Business Tips
  1. Mix up your images. Headshots, details, behind-the-scenes, products and lifestyle shots all do different jobs. Rotate them so your feed tells a story, rather than being a wall of headshots.
  2. Pair reviews with a photo. A testimonial next to your client’s face or your product feels far more real than text alone. Ask happy clients for one straight away, while they’re still glowing.
  3. Make a mood board. Pin anything whose colours, feel and style you love - photos, textures, interiors, outfits, anything that sparks joy. You’ll quickly spot patterns that show what your brand is really about, and it makes planning a shoot (or any marketing) so much easier.
  4. Feel the nerves and do it anyway. Almost everyone I photograph tells me they hate having their photo taken, and almost everyone ends up laughing. A few simple tricks make all the difference.
  5. Don’t be afraid to say no. Trusting your expertise, and encouraging your clients to trust it too, often leads to better results than doing exactly what was asked. Saying no to the wrong thing makes room for the right one.
