We are so excited to be launching our new website and shopping cart with a host of new products for 2017. Our school and club bears having been a great success but we have now introduced cushions made from special clothing. The special memories bears and cushions have been also popular for all occasions including bridal gifts and together with our new personalised embroidery service make a truly unique keepsake. We also have fantastic sporting keepsakes which include rugby balls created from the kit. Finally we have introduced our new bunny and elephant keepsakes made from babygros and children's clothing. Our gift vouchers have proved very popular as gifts for new Mums and Dads!
Blazer Bear make handmade bespoke keepsakes out of school uniform or any special clothing. We incorporated other items such as ties, sports tops, ribbons, shirts etc as ears, paws, scarves or piping. To personalise further we add badges and awards to the front and back and stitch a name tag to the back of the ears. Although initially the bears were made from school uniform we have since branched out to include and special clothing:
Rugby and Football tops (including an ex British Lions and Wasps player)
Forces (Incl a 1940's RAF uniform)
The list is endless and we love the challenge of each new project! They make much loved and unique gifts whether as teacher gifts, leavers presents, godchildren or special birthdays. We have just made a surprise 50th from a 60 year old blazer. Even the oldest clothing can make a very smart bear! We have recently made mascots for businesses and sports teams with the players numbers on the back or business logo. One of our bears is soon off to Afghanastan and will travel with it's owner in the RAF to other parts of the world. We are looking forward to seeing photographs of the bears travels. The bears are a fantastic way to recycle clothing and keep special memories alive.
Graduating from university with an Economics Degree, at the age of 21 I left my native Australia and embarked on a working holiday that began in London. I was fortunate to land a job in the Economics department of Kleinwort Benson, and later worked as an Equity Analyst. During this time I met and married my English husband Mark. We have 4 children 3 of which are triplets. Being given a sewing machine at the age of 5 I have always been an avid sewer, and have made everything from cushions, to bridesmaids dresses, to curtains, many a costume...to bears. When the children moved to secondary schools, as a special keepsake from primary school, I made them each a bear out of their tatty blazers. Kathy a friend since the children were small, loved them and so together we formed Blazer Bear! Since then we have developed the pattern design and how we incorporate other special clothing into the bear, not forgetting the name tag behind the ear! Largely due to customer request we have been delighted to have made bears from so many special items of clothing.
Having graduated from university I worked at Kings College Hospital as a drugs analyst for the transplants and AIDS wards. In 1992 I retrained as primary school teacher which I loved. Having got married and had two children, we moved to Milan due to my husbands work. This was a fantastic experience but a real challenge with two small children and two words in Italian! When we returned I continued teaching but unfortunately I fell ill. However having recovered I did return to teach but really wanted to find something that would allow me more flexibility to spend time with the family. When Pru and I formed Blazer Bear we were both equally passionate about our bears and the fact we felt we had a unique product with huge scope. We also have been a huge support to each other, not only pooling our skills but with dealing with the ups and downs of everyday life.
Don't be afraid to change something if it doesn't work and have a sense of humour!
