We don’t just do accounts — we give ambitious business owners the clarity, confidence, and control to grow.
At Get Smart Accountants, we cut through the jargon and guesswork to deliver smart, timely financial insight that actually means something.
Our support goes beyond compliance — we’re here to help you make informed decisions, plan ahead, and build a business that works for you.
I'm Emma, and along with my husband Paul, we co-founded Get Smart Accountants in 2020.
We started the business because we saw how many entrepreneurs were being left in the dark when it came to their finances—confused by jargon, unsure of their numbers, and lacking the insight they needed to grow with confidence.
Paul brings over 20 years of accounting and finance experience, and I bring a background in organisation and customer care.
Together, we’ve created a service that’s not just about compliance—it’s about clarity, confidence, and real support.
Our mission is simple: to help ambitious business owners grow by providing clear, timely financial information they can actually understand and use.
We know first-hand how stressful running a business can be, especially when you're unsure about your turnover, tax, or profitability. That’s why we’re committed to going beyond the basics. We want our clients to feel empowered, in control, and excited about the future of their business.
1. Don’t settle for just “compliance.”
Your accountant should be more than someone who files your tax return. Look for a partner who helps you understand the numbers behind your business so you can make informed decisions, not just meet deadlines.
2. Make sure they speak your language.
If you leave every meeting more confused than when you went in, it’s a red flag. A great accountant takes the time to explain things clearly—no jargon, no judgment—so you feel confident, not overwhelmed.
3. Choose someone who cares about your goals, not just your accounts.
Whether it’s growing your team, buying your dream home, or working fewer hours—your accountant should understand what you want and help you build the business to get there.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask “silly” questions.
You’re not an accountant—and you don’t have to be. A supportive accountant welcomes your questions and makes sure you feel in control, not intimidated.
5. Look beyond the price tag.
It’s tempting to go with the cheapest option, but the right accountant will often save you more than they cost—through better planning, smarter decisions, and fewer surprises.
6. Make your accountant part of your growth team.
Your accountant should be someone you check in with regularly—not once a year. The right financial insight, at the right time, can unlock new opportunities and avoid costly mistakes.
