We ae Next Step Compliance, a husband and wife compliance team and Kent's one stop shop for small business compliance. We have just been honoured with the Small Business Sunday award and we are on a mission to make compliance the thing that opens doors for small businesses, not holds them back.
We typically work with ambitious small businesses across Kent, from Maidstone and Medway to Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks, in sectors including construction, manufacturing, food production, facilities management and more. My Bio
I'm Jeanette Wessen, founder of Next Step Compliance. Before compliance, I spent over a decade teaching Food Technology, Engineering and Design Technology, then retrained as a consultant alongside my father, who has been an ISO and H&S consultant for over 30 years. When he retired, I started Next Step Compliance and built it from from there.
That teaching background means I don't just build compliance systems — I make sure your people actually understand them. Old school knowledge. Next generation of consultant.
Next Step Compliance is a family business. My husband Tim is joining the practice, bringing deep expertise in precision manufacturing and engineering. Between us we cover food safety, ISO, SSIP, FORS, BRCGS, H&S and more, everything a small business needs, in one trusted partnership.
We work onsite, inside your business, as your dedicated compliance manager, without the full-time cost. Always the same two people. Always properly done.
My Business Tips
1. Compliance should work for your business, not the other way round. If your system lives in a folder nobody opens, it isn't working. Build it around how your business actually operates.
2. Don't wait until a tender asks for ISO to start the process. Certification typically takes 3-6 months and by the time you need it, it's too late. Start before the opportunity arrives.
3. The biggest compliance mistake small businesses make is treating it as a one-off project. Certification is the beginning, not the end. The businesses who get real value from ISO are the ones who keep it alive.
