RKLSwims is growing, and we’re reaching the limits of what we can achieve through hired pool space.
Our inclusive swimming programme in South Wales now operates at consistently high utilisation, delivering small-group, 1-to-2 and 1-to-1 lessons for swimmers with a wide range of abilities and support needs.
We’re now working towards our biggest step yet: developing a dedicated aquatic facility that will allow us to significantly increase capacity, expand our community provision and create a permanent home for RKLSwims.
Alongside our weekly lessons, we continue to develop partnerships, deliver water-safety initiatives and work with organisations across South Wales to help more people become confident and safer around water.
RKLSwims is an inclusive swim school based in South Wales, providing swimming lessons for children, young people and adults.
The organisation was founded around a simple principle: swimming lessons should adapt to the swimmer rather than expecting every swimmer to learn in exactly the same way.
We provide small-group, 1-to-2 and 1-to-1 swimming lessons, allowing our teachers to offer significantly more individual attention and flexibility than is normally possible within larger traditional swimming programmes.
Inclusion is central to what we do. Our team has particular experience supporting neurodivergent swimmers, children and young people with additional learning needs, nervous swimmers and those who may need more time, consistency or individual support to build confidence in the water.
Since launching, RKLSwims has developed into a growing swimming organisation with strong demand, high lesson utilisation and an expanding network of community and industry partnerships.
Our work also extends beyond weekly swimming lessons. We promote water safety within our local communities, support families in accessing aquatic activities and work with community organisations to increase opportunities for people who may otherwise face barriers to participating.
The next stage of RKLSwims is the development of our own dedicated aquatic facility in South Wales. This would allow us to substantially increase our learn-to-swim capacity while introducing additional community swimming, training, aquatic activities and inclusive programmes.
Our long-term aim is to create an aquatic environment where people of different ages, abilities and support needs can learn, develop confidence and enjoy the water in a way that works for them.
Build around the problem, not the product.
RKLSwims has grown by understanding what families struggle to find and designing our service around those needs rather than simply replicating traditional swimming provision.
Listen for patterns.
One customer request might be a preference. When the same problem keeps appearing, there is often a genuine business opportunity behind it.
Know what is actually restricting growth.
More customers are not always the answer. For RKLSwims, demand began exceeding the pool time available to us, so our next growth challenge became infrastructure rather than marketing.
Build relationships before you need them.
Partnerships with other businesses, community organisations, suppliers and industry bodies can open opportunities that would be difficult to create alone.
Protect what makes the business different as you scale.
Growth should increase your impact without removing the qualities that made customers choose you in the first place.
Commercial sustainability and social impact can work together.
A financially resilient organisation is able to employ people, invest in better services and create greater long-term community impact.
New RKLSwims swimming lesson spaces now available
We’re expanding our swimming programme and opening additional spaces across selected small-group, 1-to-2 and 1-to-1 lessons.
Our lessons are designed around the individual swimmer, with small class sizes and particular experience supporting neurodivergent swimmers, swimmers with additional learning needs and those who may need extra confidence or individual attention.
Small-group swimming lessons start from £50 per month, with 1-to-2 and 1-to-1 options also available.
