Bedroom on a Budget – Add a Splash of Colour without Splashing the Cash!

Spring is well and truly in the air and it’s the perfect time to spruce up your bedroom to make way for the longer days and shorter nights. You don’t have to spend a fortune to brighten up your bedroom for the warmer months ahead. A change in soft furnishings and a splash of colour can make a huge impact. Our fitted bedrooms are built to last but other aspects of your room may require the occasional revamp.

Incorporating a pastel colour into your current decor is relatively easy. You’re bound to find a pastel shade to complement almost any colour already present. You could add hints of duck egg to your brown interior, some coral to your greys or even some pale yellow to bring sunshine to your dark fitted furniture.

Here are just a few ways you can spruce up tired or dated decor without spending huge amounts of cash:

Fabulous Feature Walls

You don’t have to break the bank to brighten up your bedroom walls. Painting or wallpapering a single wall can give your bedroom an instant lift. Painting one wall with a complementary pastel shade will add a stylish two-tone effect and patterned wallpaper will add texture to plain interiors.

Lighten Up

Changing your lighting can create an entirely different ambience within a room. Add decorative bedside lamps for a style injection or change your ‘cool white’ lighting to a warmer colour temperature for instant cosiness.  Fairy lights are inexpensive and adding these to a glass bowl or vase will result in a unique and stylish decorative piece.

Dress to Impress

Updating boring windows can transform a whole wall.  Make your window the star of the show by adding new curtains or blinds. Dress with feminine florals, bold stripes or sleek voile panels. You’ll be amazed at the difference such a small change can make.

Get Creative with Cushions

Cushions offer far more than just comfort. Place different sizes, shapes and shades on beds and chairs or experiment with textures by combining sequins and silks with lace and faux furs. Changing your soft furnishings requires little effort and doesn’t have to cost the earth. If you’re good with a sewing machine, why not make your own cushion covers? Tailored shirts, retro tea towels and clothes outgrown by your children can all be recycled and transformed into something unique.

Art Attack

Art is about more than gilded frames, ostentatious oil paintings and expensive prints.  Unleash your inner Picasso by purchasing a blank canvas from your local craft shop and experimenting with paints and pastels.  Perhaps, frame pretty pictures from magazines or create a collage of your favourite photos. You might surprise yourself!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Carefully placed mirrors will create the illusion of extra space. They’ll also add a tad of sparkle as the days become brighter. Attach a large mirror to a feature wall in your contemporary bedroom or create a display of mismatched framed mirrors for a more vintage feel.  You could even glue some felt to the back of a mirror and use it as a decorative tray for your dressing table.
