Reflecting on a Decade: 2010-2020 at the salon

Can you believe that in a few days we see the start not just of a new year but a new decade! 2020 is upon us and with it comes an exciting time as the beauty industry embraces modernisation, the British government prepares for Brexit (which may or may not happen this decade!), and here at Beauty Gallery we lay the foundations for Mandy to move towards retirement.

What? I hear you cry. Noooooooooo!

Unfortunately the time is coming when Mandy will be taking a step back. Not straight away so don't panic! She'll be going strong for a few years yet but during our planning sessions we realised a few things: Mandy is not getting any younger, and the next ten years are going to shoot by. So the cogs are turning and the salon is evolving.

We thought we would take this moment to reflect on how the salon has grown, and what we have achieved over the last ten years. In the blink of an eye so much has happened. We can't wait to see what 2020 and beyond brings us!

So here are a few key years and events that stood out for us:

2010: After moving the salon to it’s 4th location in 2009 Mandy worked hard alongside a self-employed beauty therapist and reflexologist. The small salon was decorated and refitted to create two cosy treatment rooms.

2012: Mandy serves as Chairperson of the Board (2009-2012) of the British Institute and Association of Electrolysis. She also becomes an NHS Provider for electrolysis for those on the transgender pathway.

2013: Mandy officially gets her Dermalogica Expert certificate (Victoria followed suit in 2017).

2015: After moving back from the US Victoria decides to retain into the beauty industry in order to join Mandy in the business.

2016: Victoria completes her initial training before going on maternity leave. Mandy achieves her Tutor certificate from the BIAE.

2017: Victoria came back from maternity leave and joined Mandy as a partner in the business. Our social media interaction increase and we update our website. We also hosted a successful open day raising money for the Alison Fracella Research Trust.

2018: We very nervously, but in an excited way, moved the salon into a larger premise. The 5th location of the salon in 18 years. We hired our first employee and very excitingly were recognised by Dermalogica as a Silver Circle salon. Mandy completes her Level 4 Salon Management and Advanced Electrolysis certificate. We get three awards in thebestof business awards including Winner in the local area. And we won SBS in August 2018!

2019: This year has seen an amazing experience for us as the salon settled into its new premises. We were shortlisted for the best family business in the East Anglian Business Awards, and we got three awards in theBestof awards including winning our beautician category. In February we were proud to meet Theo Paphitis at his annual SBS Winners event in Birmingham after winning in his weekly Twitter competition. Then in December we welcomed two members of staff to the family, Vicky our new receptionist and Lorrenda our new beauty therapist. Meanwhile Victoria completed her Level 3 Anatomy & Physiology certificate, and her Level 3 Massage course.

Going into 2020 we look forward to continuing our growth, bringing new and exciting treatments into the salon, and remaining a friendly, family salon.

Happy New Year!
