I got retweeted by Theo a couple of days ago and have already had a great boost in Twitter followers and lots of support from fellow winners! Looking forward to meeting some of them soon at the winners event and seeing how we can help each other out as small business owners...
I was lucky enough to study at the Birmingham School of Jewellery. I then spent 10yrs in the jewellery industry, learning new skills and gaining lots of small business knowledge from those I worked for. I finally plucked up the courage to go it alone at the beginning of 2014 and haven't looked back since!
My current Square Roots jewellery collection is inspired by a mixture of origami, mathematics and strong architectural forms. Each piece is made from one or two flat squares of silver which are marked out, hand cut and then handmade into wearable 3D forms. Nothing is subtracted from these squares apart from the cut lines, meaning they are all still 'squares'! All available on www.alicebarnes.co.uk
Never stop learning. Courses, education and new skills are important, but also remember that every business you work for and every job you take on can teach you something new and get you to where you want to be.
