Tell us how #SBS has affected your business
We have only been in the prestigious #SBS club for 48 hours, and it's really raised our profile! We've significantly increased our social media following, generated sales and had a great time networking with loads of other like minded, small business owners. We're absolutely over the moon to have been picked and are really looking forward to the opportunities to come.
I started Rockpool Trading 3 years ago as a purely online business, after working for 12 years in the legal and business administration fields. Although I take charge of the day to day running of the business I receive a lot of help from my husband, who is very creative and whose background is in sales and marketing.
For years we had both shared a common desire to build up a business from scratch which we could call "ours". We are both huge fans of the South West, and we're really passionate about supporting local crafters and designers, so we came up with the idea of providing a marketplace for all the fabulous local designers we had seen at various fairs, exhibitions and galleries around the Westcountry. Since we started we have steadily grown and we now support 18 crafters on a regular basis, all of whom, like us, are proud to call Devon and Cornwall "home".
We also use our business as a platform to sing the praises of the South West, both through social media and our blog "Rockhoppers"; we love to promote local events and generally give people a taste of what life is like in this beautiful corner of the UK.
Do as much market research as you possibly can… and then do some more!
Be careful with who's opinions you ask for - only seek advice from those you really trust.
Experience in a particular field is nice but not essential - processes can be taught. However, passion for what you do is vital.
