Our 3M Scotch-Weld 77 spray was the missing piece of the jigsaw in this manhole manufacturing puzzle

Viking supply products to a whole range of different sectors from aerospace to automotive for a huge range of uses. Whether it’s our Acrylic Foam Tape being used in window manufacturing or our extra strength 3M adhesives being used in securing the Olympic Rings! The variety is vast and we like to think there’s no problem too sticky for our team of experts.

Finding solutions to manufacturing problems is something that we love to do, and our MD Colin takes a number of calls each and every day advising on the best products to use in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways. So when a leading player in the manufacturing of manhole covers got in touch, we jumped at the challenge to get involved.

When walking down the street, have you ever wondered how manhole covers are made? Probably not! We hear you! But the manufacture of manhole covers is an interesting concept and the question of why they are indeed round was even used by Microsoft as an interview question to determine how smart its candidates really were!

Our client is recognised internationally in the industry for producing highly engineered composite access covers aka manhole covers and came to us with the issue of how to separate the cover from its mould, with a clean release, during the manufacturing process. If you imagine trying to remove a cake from a tin once it’s cooked, it’s the same idea! For a cake the solution for a clean release is butter and for the manhole cover it was our 3M Scotch-Weld 77 spray, which we advised the customer to spray over the mould, providing the clean release required.

This adhesive product can be used in so many other ways and can be purchased direct from our website www.vikingtapes.co.uk
