My Buzz
Stormy Studio, is a UK animation studio putting quality design and originality at the heart of everything we do. Our focus on business animation has allowed us to carve out a niche.
At the start of 2020 (and 5 years into the business) we were featured in the Times, our studio won its first global animation award and we were chosen by Theo to join #SBS. So all in all a great couple of weeks.
We work for companies nationally and globally to help explain ideas, build brand awareness, engage an audience and help business with bespoke animation and motion graphics production.
My Bio
I'm Jon Draper, the founder of our Devonshire animation studio.
From a young age, I always dreamt of running my own animation studio... many, many years later I finally got there.
I received a 1st BA (Hons) after study Illustration and Animation at Southampton Solent Uni. Where I met my now wife and won a Royal Television award for my degree short film. I gained my first bit of industry experience at a children's cartoon company in Soho, London.
From there I freelanced for a while, before getting a full-time position for 9+ years experience at a London video production company.
Finally, with my wife and young family, we upped sticks and escaped to the beautiful Devonshire coastline with a view to setting up an animation studio.
Stormy Studio started, initially from a spare room with monitors balanced on a stack of books. 5 years on, having survived common business start-up hurdles, we now have a great office space on the coast, space for up to 8 animators and a growing list of brilliant, local, national and overseas clients.
So all in all, the gamble to move down to the coast paid off.
My Business Tips
Running your own business is bloody hard sometimes.. but keep on slogging... work on the business as a whole... and it'll all be fine and dandy in the end...
...failing that... a glass of red (or pint of Ale) and good kip can also work wonders.
